Plugged into Iceland

In Module 4 your app goes out into the world and brings something back. The world is pretty big though, so I went hunting for Icelandic data, tools and services you can plug into. Click any card and you get a short how-to.

Before you pick one, look at the colored labels. The most important thing to know about an API is whether you can fetch it straight from the browser, or whether the browser will stop you with a red CORS message. If you don't remember why that happens, the "React - Fetch" guide explains it. Nothing is broken when you see it, I promise.

And when the browser says no, you already know the fix. In Module 3 (Where does it live?) you built a server with a key in .env. Servers don't care about CORS, so your server fetches the data and your page fetches from your server. The cards marked Needs a server show you how.

Remember that the group project needs live data from at least one API. Look out for the purple boxes when you open a card. They point back to places you've already seen something, so you don't have to start from zero.

Is your idea not Icelandic, or do you want more to choose from? Plugged into the World is the big sibling of this page, with the APIs people all over the world build pet projects with.

Your app → the world

APIs

Your code calls fetch() and gets data back. JSON most of the time, sometimes XML, once in a while a zip file.

Your agent → the world

MCP servers & skills

These don't go inside your website. They plug into Claude Code, Codex or Copilot so your agent can look up real Icelandic data while it helps you build. Same loop as in the Module 4 intro: the model asks, the tool does the work.

The world's agents → your app

WebMCP

The speciality. Your app offers tools that browser agents can call. The MCP servers below are good inspiration for what tools to offer, and what not to.

Works in the browser fetch it from React, no server needed Needs a server CORS blocks it, your Module 3 server fixes it Needs a key it goes in .env on the server, never in React Undocumented it works, but nobody promised it will stay that way For your agent MCP or skill Install npm / pip package Unofficial built by the community Broken don't use it
