Plugged into the World

Remember Plugged into Iceland? This is its big sibling. Same idea, bigger planet: the APIs, MCP servers and skills that people all over the world build their pet projects with. Pokémon, recipes, the space station, Formula 1, northern lights, terrible dad jokes. Click any card and you get a short how-to.

Here's a good way to start on the "Connecting to the world" guide. In the "Accessibility" guide you wrote at least 8 items into a JSON file (volcanoes, films, board games, whatever you picked). Swap that file for a live API, and you already have a page to put the data in. So pick your topic below and see what fits. Every API card shows three little checks: Search, Images and Details. Your "Accessibility" page has a search field, results with an image and a details dialog, so an API with all three slides right in.

One warning before you start. I tested about 300 APIs for this page, and a surprising number of the famous ones from tutorials are dead or have changed. Your agent doesn't know that, because it learned from those old tutorials. So when it writes fetch("https://restcountries.com/v3.1/…") with total confidence and nothing comes back, you'll know why. Remember spotting outdated syntax and invented APIs in the "JavaScript Frameworks" guide? This is the same skill. The red Gone group at the bottom lists the worst offenders.

The code examples are React, like in the "React - Fetch" guide. The fetch() part is exactly the same in Vue and Angular.

APIs

Your code calls fetch() and gets data back. You need at least two for the "Connecting to the world" guide, and live data from one for the group project.

Your agent → the world

MCP servers & skills

These plug into Claude Code, Codex or Copilot. You've already used a browser MCP in the "Accessibility" guide and written a skill. Here are the ones the rest of the world uses.

WebMCP

For the speciality: every MCP server below is an example of what tools to hand an agent, and what not to.

What topic did you pick in the "Accessibility" guide?

Works in the browser fetch it from React, no server needed Needs a server CORS blocks it, your Module 3 server fixes it Needs a key it goes in .env on the server, never in React Changed works, but not the way old tutorials say Undocumented it works, nobody promised it will stay that way Down when tested failed every time I tried, may come back Gone don't use it For your agent MCP or skill Seen before you've met it in an earlier guide SearchImagesDetails
